Buah yang dalam bahasa Inggris disebut dengan betel palm ini memiliki berbagai macam nama mulai dari Jambe, Bua, Penang, Pineung, dan lainnya. Pohon Pinang memiliki ciri-ciri tinggi yang lurus—bisa mencapai ketinggian 25 meter—dan tajuknya yang tidak rimbun. Pelepah daunnya berbentuk seperti tabung dengan panjang mencapai 80 cm dan bagian ujung daunnya tampak sobek.

Di Pulau Jawa, Pinang banyak tumbuh di daerah dengan ketinggian sekitar 1.400 meter di atas permukaan air laut (dpl). Selain pohonnya yang biasa digunakan untuk lomba memanjat Pinang, tumbuhan ini juga mempunyai buah yang ternyata banyak dimanfaatkan untuk mengobati berbagai jenis penyakit.

Zat yang dikandung di dalam buah Pinang meliputi arecolidine, arecaidine, guvacoline, guracine, dan beberapa senyawa lainnya. Sedangkan, biji tanaman ini yang juga bermanfaat, memiliki kandungan alkaloida seperti arekaina dan arekolina yang bersifat adiktif dan dapat merangsang otak.

Di kalangan masyarakat tradisional, buah Pinang biasanya dijadikan salah satu campuran untuk makan Sirih. Namun, sebagian besar masyarakat sudah memanfaatkan buah ini untuk mengobati penyakit disentri, kudisan, dan juga diare berdarah. Sedangkan, Biji Pinang biasanya digunakan untuk mengobati penyakit cacingan, terutama untuk mengobati cacing pita.

Banyak orang mencari berbagai cara untuk meningkatkan staminanya supaya tidak lekas loyo. Untuk mendapatkan stamina yang kuat dan greng, maka soal makanan dan suplemen harus diperhatikan secara optimal.
